Aniseed Ascent -
Have you entered yet? - a unique once only trail running event taking runners deep into the heart of the Tasman Pine Forests estate up the Aniseed Valley on Saturday 23 August 2025. Two challenging courses (10km & 20km) along dirt forestry roads wind their way through a dramatic landscape of pine-clad hills. The Aniseed Ascent is an exclusive chance to race on land not normally open to the public, making it a must-do for trail runners looking to test themselves on scenic and seldom-trodden ground. The event is a fundraiser for Athletics Nelson club member Dougal Shepherd to attend the World Mountain Running Champs in Spain. Unfortunately Athletics NZ provides no financial support for athletes travelling, so by racing you are assisting getting him to the Pyrenees! check it all out www.aniseedascent.co.nz

Saturday - Dovedale Hill, Climb
It’s the 50th Anniversary of the classic 11k run/walk from Wakefield to the top of Dovedale Hill along Pigeon Valley Road. Everyone is welcome – runners, walkers, members and non-members. Registration is in the Whitby car park in the middle of Wakefield from 1:15pm to 1:50pm sharp. There is a water station half way at the end of the seal. To minimise the time our crew are having to wait at the top of the hill, we are having the following start times:
- 1:45pm: Casual Walkers
- 2:00pm: Quicker Walkers & Slower Runners (34mins+ for flat 5km)
- 2:15pm: Main Runners Group
- 2:30pm: Quicker Runners (less than 22mins for a flat 5km)
- 2:45pm: 5.5k Juniors – Start from half way water station (will need own transport to start line.)
If you can’t manage 11km, you can make up a team of 2 on the day and run/walk half each. This is a one-way course with competitors either jogging back down using forestry roads and Pigeon Valley Rd, or carpooling and leaving a car at the top before the event.
Come to the Wakefield Hotel after the event for awards and hot chips! $10 entry fee FREE for Athletics Nelson and Waimea Harriers members along with school kids & youth students
Great training for The Aniseed Ascent
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of this event there will be medals for all finishers – thanks to John Fitton. - Waimea Harriers event
